Many of us take for granted the hundreds of individual parts that make up our vehicles but to keep your car in top condition, it's vital to understand some of the most crucial components. For example, the brake pad uses immense friction and pressure to bring the vehicle to a stop, but did you ever consider how exactly it works?

As you press your foot to the brake pedal, a cylinder is engaged and sends brake fluid to the calipers. These calipers then seize the brake pads, which apply pressure and friction to the rotor, ultimately bringing the car to a stop.

You don't have to worry about maintaining the brake pads on your vehicle too often, as these will last you up to 65,000 miles, depending on how you drive. If you're diligent with driving safely and don't overwork your brakes, they can last several years without needing any service.
